Nakagawa finals at BUCS Swimming Championships Competing at his first university long course swimming championships Tsubasa achieved three finals. Finishing joint seventh in the 100m Freestlye and narrowly missing the podium in the 50m Freestyle finishing 4th. At the same championships Sophie Smith competing as a British Swimming guest produced a personal bests in the 100m Backstroke and a new Senior County record in the 50m Butterfly. |

West & Cooper named in UK School Games Central Team After producing strong performances in 2011/2012 both Harriet West and Harriet Cooper have been named in the UK School Games England Central team to compete at the Olympic Aquatic Centre in May. This is a fantastic achievement for the girls and the clubs continued representation at this event. |

Girls supreme at Central Zonal Competition At the Corby International pool the girls of COLSC were in supreme form claiming a top 3 overall club finish. Swimming in only specific events in preparation for the Olympic trials and County Championships the girls producing five gold, five silver and 2 bronze performances from Sophie Smith, Harriet Cooper, Harriet West and Megan Morrison. There was also final performances from Candice Hall, Matt Hincks and Jack Warren - Ballard.

COLSC named Leicester Mercury Club of the Year 2011 At the Leicester Mercury Sports Awards, held at Leicester Tigers Welford Road Stadium on Thursday January 19th, the club were awarded the prestigious title of Club of the Year. Up against some of the finest sporting clubs in the county the club won the award in a year that has seen many individual and team successes at both domestic and international levels of competition. The club would like to thank all that have been involved in the development of the Leicestershire Talent pathway over the past few years. |

Cooper named Junior Sportswomen of the Year At the Leicester Mercury Sports Awards, Harriet Cooper for the second time was named Junior Sportswomen of the Year. In a year that has seen Harriet break a British Age Group record and be crowned European Youth Olympic Champion this awards recognises these achievements. During the awards ceremony both Harriet West and Sophie Smith were named runners up in the Junior and Young Sportswomen of the Year categories. They were both commended for their achievements at national and international levels of competition in 2011. |

Smith strikes gold on International duty for GB Competing for Great Britain at the Flanders Swimming Cup in Antwerp, Belgium both Sophie Smith and Jamie Thorpe returned home having produced near personal best performances in several international finals. In a very competitive meet Sophie Smith competed in six events and made it six finals taking the gold in the 200m Freestyle over GB team mate Eleanor Faulkner. Jamie Thorpe competing in his second international swam to his first international finals in both the 50m and 100m Butterfly. These strong performances continue their preparations for the Olympic Trials in March. |

Cooper sets new County junior mark Competing at the City of Derby Open Meet in Sheffield, Harriet Cooper broke the 100m Freestyle junior long course county record in a time of 57.3. The previous mark was held by Sophie Smith for two years at 57.5. After a string of strong performances throughout the weekend Harriet can now prepare for the Olympic trials in March with confidence as she try's to emulate Smith and qualify for the Great Britain European Junior team. |

Fast swimming in early 2012 The new year promises to be an exciting year after several swimmers produced many close or qualifying swims for the Olympic trial, Senior, Youth and Age National Championships later this year. At a highly competitive City of Derby Open Meet the clubs small squad of swimmers swam outstanding to finish 4th top club. Harriet West, Megan Morrison and Jack Warren - Ballard are all less than one second from Olympic trials times with one meet left to qualify. Elliot Tointon achieved his first National Youth time. Candice Hall, Megan Morrison and Hannah Knight also added swims to the list of qualifiers for the National Age Championships. Swimming just of the National Age qualifying times are Joy Willett, Zoe Tildesley, Milly Scotchbrook, Molly Hey, Daisy Platts, Simon Scully and Ryan Gordan.

Records fall at golden Regional Champs During a successful meet for COLSC two county records fell at Corby International pool at the Regional short course championships. Jamie Thorpe lowered his senior record in the 100m Butterfly breaking the 54 second mark for the first time. Elliot Tointon set his first junior record in the 400m Ind.medley previously set nearly 10 years ago. Over the two day meet Harriet West, Harriet Cooper, Sophie Smith and Jamie Thorpe produced outstanding swims to return with eight Regional junior and senior championship titles between them. Jake Spicer, Elliot Tointon, Derry Foran and Jack Faulkner also produced podium winning performances. |

Nakagawa's international return at the Canada Cup Making his return to international competition at the Canada Cup for England, Tsubasa Nakagawa claimed his first international podium in the 4x100m Medley Team. Anchoring the team with his freestyle Tsubasa brought the team home to a bronze medal finish. In his individual events Tsubasa claimed a senior B final win against strong opposition from Canada and the U.S.A. Swimming to strong morning Short course times in both the 50m and 100m Freestyle events over the weekend. Tsubasa returned for the evening long course finals to place third in the 100m freestyle during the Friday session and taking the win in the 50m Freestyle event on Saturday. Tsubasa also swam the lead off leg of the England 4x100m Freestyle team finishing 8th in the final. |

Nakagawa finals at his first British University & College Swimming Championships Tsubasa Nakagawa made his first appearance for Nottingham University at the BUCS short course championships in Sheffield. Showing great early season speed after making his move to university, Tsubasa competed in the 50m and 100m Freestlye events finishing 6th and 4th against a high level of competition. These strong performances will give him great confidence as he now prepares for international duty for England in canada during late November. |

Smith contests World Cup Final Competing at the Berlin World Cup Sophie Smith produces a new 100m Individual Medley LASA County senior record in her first senior international final. After strong performances in the heat sessions and narrowly missing out on the 200m Individual Medley final the day before Sophie stepped up and delivered against an impressive field of competitors including new world record holder Missy Frankiln to finish 7th. Jamie Thorpe making his international debut for Great Britain put in two strong freestyle performances to finish the meet with new personal best. Jamie and Sophie now look to the new year and a junior international in Belgium before the Olympic trials in March 2012. |

Six on form to qualify for National Championships At the Lincoln Vulcan's open meet in sheffield COLSC swimmers put in strong early season performances to set a high benchmark for the season. Showing great fitness and improved skill in their first long course meet of this Olympic season Sophie Smith, Harriet Cooper, Harriet West, Candice Hall, Jamie Thorpe, Jack Warren - Ballard all qualified to compete at the ASA National Age and Youth Championships next summer. Both Sophie Smith and Jack Warren - Ballard showed their impressive 200m backstroke potential with Jack just missing the LASA junior county record and Sophie setting a new LASA county senior record. |
